White Argentines are descendants of immigrants of European ancestry a large proportion of which emmigrated from Italy and Spain in the late 19th century. They make up 86.4% to 97% of Argentina''s population and live in all regions of the country.Unlike many regions in the Americas, Argentine ethnography is characterized for having a majority percentage of European descendants. These estimates vary from 85% to 97% of the population. The 1895 national census was the only one of ten conducted in Argentina since 1869 to have included questions regarding ethnic self-identificaton, and aside from a national survey of indigenous peoples taken in 2005, no other official, nationwide surveys of ethnicity have been taken in Argentina. The 1914 national census, however, revealed that around 80 percent of the national population were either European immigrants, their children or grandchildren.
